By-Laws
Amended May 4, 2003

Article 8

The Moderator shall preside at all meetings of the Society and shall have the same power as the Moderator of town meetings.

Article 9

A. The spirit of our Society is expressed in the statement: We gather in the love of truth and in the spirit of religious and philosophical freedom. We acknowledge the spirit of Jesus and the worship of God in our religious heritage. We unite for discovery of self and the improvement of the human condition. Any person in sympathy with this statement may become a member of the society by signing the Membership Book.

B. There will be two categories of membership. Voting and Associate membership. In all instances any person who has signed the Membership Book will receive full ministerial services and may only be removed from the Membership Book at their request or upon an unanimous vote of the Parish Committee.

Voting Member: Any person who signed the Membership Book and has made a minimum financial commitment to the Society, as determined by the Parish Committee. The Parish Committee may also waive these criteria for any member who they determine has contributed by other means to the Society by their active involvement in the Society*. Voting members may vote at any special meeting of the Society, and may hold elected office of the Society.

Associate Member: Any person who has signed the Membership Book but does not meet the criteria for full voting member. An Associate Member may be heard at any special meeting of the Society, but may not vote. Such member may serve on any committee, but is ineligible to hold elected office of the Society.

Article 10

Any member may withdraw from the Society by filing with the Clerk his/her intention to do so in writing.

Article 11

These by-laws when adopted shall be a substitute for any by-laws previously in force, all such by-laws being hereby repealed. They may be amended at any legal meetings of the Society by a two-thirds vote of  its Voting Members, present and voting, notice of the proposed amendment being given in the warrant for the meeting.
