Rev. Susan who is often assisted by members of the congregation leads the worship services. If the church has a ministerial intern that intern is involved in worship services as often as their learning agreement specifies. Student Interns are given opportunity to preach during their learning time at First Church Unitarian Universalist.

Once per month, a Lay Worship Committee plans and conducts the worship service. Lay Worship Committee is open to any interested person by contacting that committee directly. Rev. Susan is not a member of the Lay Worship Committee and has no authority over their services.

Worship in the Unitarian Universalist tradition can be quite varied and unique, even though there are common elements that are familiar in most of the Protestant traditions, the worship service itself can be flexible. If you are new to First Church Unitarian Universalist you are encouraged to attend a number of worship services prior to making a decision about the format and style and as always questions can be directed to the minister, or any member of the congregations.

Topics for Rev. Susan normally chooses sermons and she will often solicit your input to assure that sermons and worship services are meeting your spiritual needs.

She normally plans the upcoming years services during the summer months however, changes in schedules, church occurrences or world events may move topics around or off the schedule. There is flexibility in the choice of topics and the congregation’s input is appreciated.

As well , any member or friend is invited to contribute to the worship services. Topics and titles are announced in the monthly newsletter. If a member or friend wants to offer research, a reading or to participate in the service they are cordially invited to do so, by being in contact with Rev. Susan. Lighting the Chalice, leading a reading, offering a prayers, assisting in various ways is welcomed. Rev. Susan can provide you with resources or you may suggest your own.
